The Writing Advantage provides vital Occupational Therapy support to assist schools and teachers to develop early intervention programs for the junior primary classroom. Our experienced Occupational Therapists are able to guide teachers towards the development of whole class and small group strategies to assist children in the areas of:

  • Sensory Motor Skills
  • Gross Motor Skills
  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Visual Motor Skills
  • Handwriting
  • Self care (Independence & functional skills)

The comprehensive Writing Advantage service includes the key components of identification and intervention for children at your school. Intervention is based on an action learning model where the teachers involved receive tailored and consistent support from the Occupational Therapist.

  • Across the school year the Writing Advantage team provide:
  • Profiling and analysis of children’s fine and gross motor skills
  • Professional development for teaching staff
  • Planning and intervention consultations with the teacher and Occupational Therapist
  • Capacity building for teachers through the development of strategies and activities that are applied to the classroom
  • Final year profiling for 50% of the originally profiled children and analysis of the progress

Results from the similarly titled Language Advantage program indicate that the collaborative approach between therapists and teachers improved education outcomes for students in all schools. Teachers commented the experience of working with the therapist enhanced their professional learning and motivated them to refine existing class programs and implement new ideas.
