The Language Advantage is an outcomes focused service for schools that concentrates on the area of Speech and Language. Our team of experienced therapists collaborate with and support teachers, to develop skills and knowledge that allow them to meet the differing needs of their students. Typically, the most significant benefits are seen over the course of the year in students with major speech and language difficulties, however, results have shown that all students undertaking the program are expected to demonstrate progression.

What is a typical result?

The beneficial results of The Language Advantage, used in conjunction with typical teaching methods, will vary depending on the school cohort. An example of the potential significant improvement is shown by Middle Swan Primary School, where a random group of students across 4 classrooms showed an average improvement of 51.5%. This spectacular improvement occurred over 10 months, with further change expected in the next year of the program. (Variables such as natural progression and other learning experiences must also be considered and are likely to have contributed to these results.)

Compare the two

In order to investigate the effectiveness of our service we conducted a comparison study between two schools*. One school participated in The Language Advantage in kindergarten, and the other school did not. The following year we tested students from both schools (now pre-primary classes) to measure their speech and language development. The class that was included in The Language Advantage program during their kindergarten year demonstrated consistently stronger skills across the board. The following results show the percentage by which the class that had previously participated in The Language Advantage, was ahead of the class that did not.

* Both schools chosen were similar in terms of class size, located in low socio-economic areas, and had a high number of language delayed and “at risk” children
