Profiling and Screening

Profiling Tools provide specific information on individual children’s abilities, in each area of interest. The Language Advantage Profiling Tool, available for children from Kindergarten to Year 3, provides specific information on individual children’s abilities in each area that underpin literacy. The Writing Advantage Profiling Tool, also available for children from Kindergarten to Year 3, provides specific information in each area that underpin writing skills.

Profiling and Screening

Each tool takes approximately ½ hour per child to be administered, and is then analysed and scored by our Speech Pathology or Occupational Therapy team.

For example, the areas assessed by The Language Advantage Profiling Tool in Pre Primary are:

  • Semantic Organisation (vocabulary knowledge)
  • Oral Narrative (storytelling skills)
  • Comprehension (understanding)
  • Phonological Awareness (pre-literacy)
  • Conversation Skills
  • Articulation

Through this testing and analysis. we are able to create a profile of strengths and weaknesses. The profile of an individual child can indicate where abilities such as literacy begin to break down. From this information, a class profile is built which enables teachers to clearly identify where difficulties lie, and to also document individual children’s performances.

Profiling and re-profiling provides an excellent way to chart the progress of individual children’s literacy and writing skill development.
