The Complete Advantage

Early Intervention

The Complete Advantage conducts ongoing projects through the Australian Government Communities for Children Initiatives to empower families and early childhood educators in the Armadale community to help children learn language at home, child care, school and in the community. Funded by The Smith Family and the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FAHCSIA) and facilitated through Communicare, Therapy Focus helps improve outcomes of families with children aged 0-4 years through various initiatives aimed at school readiness and support.

Two Examples are:

Preparing the Path - Building a foundation for School Readiness (childcare, family day care)

Prepearing the Path provides consultative and Professional Development services to childcare and family day care providers to assist families and the children to make a positive transition from home/child care to their first formal year of schooling.

Preparing the Path assists the Armadale community in Western Australia to improve the outcomes for potentially 'at risk' children transitioning from child care to formal schooling.

Communication Capers - Early language and Literacy Development (playgoup, pre-school)

The Communication Capers program promotes early language and literacy skills through speech and language consultative services in playgroups, kindergarten and pre-primary schools.

Communication Capers was introduced mid-year 2006 to help the Armadale community, one of the areas in Western Australia identified as having socio-economic needs based on the Australian Early Developmental Index (AEDI) data.

The Communication Capers project works with children, educators and families through schools, playgroups and community events promoting early language development through various school, home and playgroup programs.

The program was peer reviewed and validated as best-practice by the Australian Government as evidenced by the Federal Government’s promising practice.
